Rag rug

Got some fabric at the thrift store and started a rag rug, its pretty cute and really easy to do.  Roughly 1 inch by 5 inch pieces. Don't make them prefect or it won't turn out as good.  It takes a lot of fabric

New signs for the backyard

I loved this idea and made some of my own.  They will look better, outside and a little weathered

Valentine's Fun

These are salt dough creations, they were pretty rough until we painted them.  I used ceram paint to paint them, and then did the glaze to seal them.  And I couldn't help but put a cute one of my little Betty blowing out the cupcakes for a pic.  She's been to one to many Birthday parties lately, lol

More with Rustoleum

This little beauty was $9 at the goodwill.  Just a couple coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss and its going to look sweet next to my full size one on the porch.  Thank heaven for little girls, they make everything cuter.  But it is a good reminder that old toy boxes, dressers, coat racks and especially chairs are super easy to re-finish.  Flat piant didn't look good.  And I didn't even sand.

Painting clothes pins

I can't believe my Mom was right but apparently you can pain clothes pins with water colors.  She got some fancy pastel set but really any water colors work. Clothes pins are perfect for closing cereal bags, chip bags and cookies.  And using pretty colored pins makes it all worth it.  It also prolongs the life of the food

Artful Picture Frame

I love this project.  $1 frame, it  was 75% off at my local Nifty Thrifty (second-hand store).  I think these will be easy to find, no glass just an old frame.  Small screw-in eyelits from Wal-mart $1.98 for a whole set.  $1.00 wire in the bead section again at Wal-mart, I used blue.  You probably have something around the house as far as wire.  And tiny clothes pins from Wal-mart which were $2 (we don't have a craft store in my town). Farm windows with hemp yard look really cool too.  The pictures are old and new.  I went to Wal-mart to scan them.  Turned them all black and white and ordered them in wallet sizes.  You get two for about 50 cents a print.  So you can make one and save the other pic or make two and give one away.  I colored the front of the pins silver with a metallic marker.  But you can also paint clothes pins, more about that to come

I'm obsessed with refinishing chandeliers

Here's what you are looking for....for some reason the lights point down and can be twisted up like this, so don't worry if the lights are the wrong way, just get some pliers or someone strong to flip them around.  I have found them from $1.99 to $20, when they are expensive I wait for the right color sale and get them from 50 to 75% off.  Local second hand stores seem to be more reasonable then the bigger ones like Goodwill and Value Village.  The wiring can be funky.  If you don't have a handyman in the family to rewire them or get them to work, candles look awesome too. Especially on if you want to use them for outdoor decor.
I wash them with a napkin and soap and water, just quick and easy nothing major.  And them hang them to spray paint.  The trick is to get rustoleum, its amazing.  $3.78 a bottle at Wal-mart.  I don't prime them either, with furniture that gets more use this might be important but chandeliers you just hang and forget, except the occasional dusting.  One coat has worked for me.  Go lightly over and over it, so it doesn't drip.  Don't paint if it is raining the humidity will make it crack.

The first pic with the pearls and crystals is flat.  The one directly above is gloss, the flat seems more timeless.  But this glossy one is going to get crazy with tons of tiny crystal beads from Wal-mart (pics to come).  For furniture I would definitely use a gloss.  The beads and crystals are easy to find online, at craft stores, bead shops.  Don't be afraid to use synthetic because no one is going to look too closely.  Another good idea is cheap plastic beads painted, especially if you wanna try a black one, with all black decorations.  Cheap dollar store mardi gras beads will look special if they match the color of the chandelier.  Can't wait to style them in my new home.  Please post your creations for future ideas and projects
